History & Geography

History and Geography at Yeading Infants forms part of the Foundation subjects.

Studying geography helps children make sense of their surroundings and the wider world.  We aim to provide the children with great opportunities to learn about the local area in terms of physical and human geography through lots of interactive resources like Google Maps, media, photographs and local visits. Through carefully planned lessons, children learn about geography of the seasons and of the weather they experience. Importance is placed on providing learning through first-hand experiences, so children expertly recognise and use fieldwork and observational skills to make connections in their learning.

Studying history helps children to make sense of the world in which they live, and builds awareness and understanding of the effect of past events on the present. During History lessons, children learn about key historical figures from a wide range of backgrounds, including using sources and artefacts to provide opportunities. Children use photographic evidence to discuss changes in living memory, including since they were babies. We alternate the teaching of History and Geography each half-term.
